Solar spicules and macrospicules observed by SUMER

چکیده

Motivated by recent observations of spicules and macrospicules in the far-ultraviolet (FUV) wavelength range with the Solar Ultraviolet Measurements of Emitted Radiation spectrograph (SUMER) on the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), a generation mechanism for spicules and macrospicules is outlined which deviates significantly from most of the previous concepts. The important aspect is that the spicule propagation is not strictly aligned along the local magnetic field direction and that there is a close association with explosive events. It is suggested that the chromospheric material will be carried up by the relaxing magnetic field following a field line reconnection. Some of the consequences for spicules and other features of the quiet-Sun (QS) atmosphere will be discussed, such as the average red shift of FUV emission lines in the transition region (TR) and polar plume formation in coronal holes (CHs).

Dynamic Properties of Solar Spicules Observed by Sumer/soho

We present a study the dynamic properties of EUV spicules. The selected data were obtained as time series in polar coronal holes by SUMER/SOHO. The short exposure time and the almost fixed position allow the analysis of the spicule properties such as: occurrence, lifetime, Doppler velocity, etc. Our data reveal that spicules occur repeatedly at the same location with a birth rate of around 0.1/...

Polar surges and macrospicules : simultaneous H α and He II 304 Å observations

We compare simultaneous sequences of Hα and He ii 304Å images near the solar limb. We propose to distinguish polar surges and giant spicules (macrospicules), among the He ii structures observed beyond the solar limb. Polar surges have a complex structure when observed in Hα and an erup-tive nature, reminiscent of normal surges in small scale. Giant spicules are simple spikes, very narrow compar...

What Goes Up Doesn’t Necessarily Come Down! - Connecting the Dynamics of the Chromosphere and Transition Region with TRACE, Hinode and SUMER

We explore joint observations of the South-East limb made by Hinode, TRACE and SOHO/SUMER on April 12, 2008 as part of the Whole Heliosphere Interval (WHI) Quiet Sun Characterization targeted observing program. During the sequence a large, 10Mm long, macro-spicule was sent upward and crossed the line-of-sight of the SUMER slit, an event that affords us an opportunity to study the coupling of co...

Damping of visco-resistive Alfven waves in solar spicules

Interaction of Alfven waves with plasma inhomogeneity generates phase mixing which can cause the dissipation of Alfven waves. We investigated the dissipation of standing Alfven waves due to phase mixing at the presence of steady flow and sheared magnetic field in solar spicules. Moreover, the transition region between chromosphere and corona was considered. Our numerical simulation showed that ...

Generation of Alfvén Waves by Small-Scale Magnetic Reconnection in Solar Spicules

Alfvén waves dissipation is an extensively studied mechanism for the coronal heating problem. These waves can be generated by magnetic reconnection and propagated along the reconnected field lines. Here, we study the generation of Alfvén waves at the presence of both steady flow and sheared magnetic field in the longitudinally density stratified of solar spicules. The initial flow is assumed to...
